Aladdin Book Review

Spoiler Alert: Read with caution if you haven’t read the book or seen the movie!

Okay, so at the beginning of the book, I thought that the genie telling his kids the story of Aladdin was good. Instead of plagiarizing it, and doing the merchant’s tale, the genie (since he is one of the main characters) telling the story was a good way to start the book.

Aladdin was more interesting, and you got to explore a bit more and find out his past more than in the movie. He also had more thoughts and actions. I have always thought that when there is no song, as there can't be, all the parts where there are songs, have way more space. In this book, though, you could still know all the thoughts of Aladdin and Jasmine. Jasmine also the book which I thought was a nice touch.

Jasmine was a good character. You could actually know more about her perspective more and why she rejected all her suitors. Also, the pattern of the changing of the chapters was pretty fluid. In this book, Jasmine wasn't talking to her dad as much as in the original. Overall, Jasmine (in the book) wasn't as good as she was in the movie.

Dalia was a great addition and was definitely one of my favorite new characters. She was funny, and the love of the genie's life. She was a true friend to Jasmine and you could tell they were extremely close.

I also thought it was a bit sad that Iago didn't get to talk as much as he did in the original, but that's okay. Jafar wasn't that menacing, and I thought that he could have better. The sultan didn't play a major part but that was fine. He was kind and loving to Jasmine so that was good.

The genie was extremely funny, both in the book and the movie. He had lots of good quips, and also was pretty sentimental. He and Dalia were a good couple, as they were both funny but both loyal. His two kids and his wife and him, traveled the world, and at the end of the book, they come to live in Agrabah. Aladdin and Jasmine welcome them and they all live in Agrabah. I think that the end of the book sounds like the beginning of the next one, don't you think?

Overall, I thought that Aladdin was one of the best Disney books I've read, and currently my favorite movie
